On April 12, 2012, Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Ming attended the reception on the 40th anniversary of China-Malta diplomatic ties co-hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Malta Embassy in China. When talking with Maltese Ambassador to China Joseph Cassar, Zhang said that the hearts of the Chinese and Malta people are close although the two countries are far away from each other. He hopes the two sides continue to strengthen the pragmatic cooperation on business, culture, science and technology and lift the bilateral ties to a higher level.

Cassar thanked the Chinese side for its long-term support for Malta. He said that developing relations with China has become the consensus of both the ruling and opposition parties of Malta. The two countries should take the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties to further promote the bilateral friendship and cooperation.
