Han Zheng Meets with Foreign Minister of Bhutan Dr. Tandi Dorji

On October 24, 2023, Vice President Han Zheng met with Foreign Minister of Bhutan Dr. Tandi Dorji in Beijing.

Han Zheng said that China and Bhutan are friendly neighbors sharing mountains and rivers. Although the two countries have not yet established diplomatic relations, they have long maintained friendly exchanges. With the resumption of boundary negotiations as a sign, the two sides have made positive progress in bilateral relations based on the boundary negotiation mechanism in recent years. Strengthening friendship and expanding cooperation between China and Bhutan are in the fundamental interests of the two countries and the expectations of the two peoples. China will, as always, respect Bhutan's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and is willing to strengthen visits and exchanges with Bhutan at all levels and in all fields, expand practical cooperation in economy, trade, culture, and tourism, among others, accelerate the boundary demarcation process, and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Bhutan to bring more benefits to the two countries and the two peoples.

Dr. Tandi Dorji said that the Bhutanese government attaches great importance to the development of relations with China and firmly abides by the one-China principle. Both sides have firm determination and a sincere desire to demarcate their boundaries and establish diplomatic relations at an early date. Bhutan is willing to maintain the sound momentum of cooperation with China in various fields and push for greater development of bilateral relations.
