On March 12, 2014, the Chinese Government Joint Work Team and the diplomats of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia held a joint work meeting with the Malaysian side, continuing their consultations and coordination on dealing with the loss of contact of the Malaysia Airlines flight. The meeting was hosted by the Department of Civil Aviation of Malaysia. The National Security Council of Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Malaysian Ministry of Transport, the Immigration Department of Malaysia, the Marine Department of Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the Malaysia Airlines and others attended the meeting.

Guo Shaochun, the team leader and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, said that the Chinese government and people across China are extremely concerned about the incident. General Secretary Xi Jinping has made instructions, required the relevant Chinese departments to strengthen communication and coordination with the Malaysian side and intensify search, rescue and investigation efforts. Premier Li Keqiang had an emergency telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. At present, the most pressing task remains to speed up the search, rescue and investigation. At the moment, the whole China, especially the families of the passengers, are anxious to learn the detailed working progress of the Malaysian side. China is willing to continue the close communication and coordination with the Malaysian side. Guo proposed to set up a liaison mechanism between relevant departments of the two countries

Guo said that China appreciated and affirmed Malaysia’s sincere attitude and positive efforts. At the same time, China asked Malaysia to attentively listen to the rational appeals of the families of the passengers and to make quick responses. The Chinese side also asked Malaysia to timely release authoritative information with details and specifics through an all-in-one channel. Guo handed over the list of requirements from the families of the Chinese passengers.

The Malaysian side said that they welcomed the Chinese work team coming to Malaysia. Malaysia paid high attention to the incident, and has sent 25 naval vessels and more than 20 aircrafts for 24-hour nonstop search and rescue work. But it is their regret that they have not found out the whereabouts of the flight yet at the moment. There were also a lot of Malaysian citizens on board, and Malaysia fully understands China's concerns and sympathizes with China. The Malaysian side asked China to believe that Malaysia will certainly act in line with China’s requirements to continue stepping up relevant search, rescue and investigation efforts, and meanwhile, and to try their best for communication and service for the families of the Chinese passengers on board in Beijing and in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian side is willing to continue their close communication and cooperation with the Chinese side.
