On March 6, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held telephone talks at request with Susan Rice, Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs ( National Security Advisor).

Rice briefed on the US view and position on the current situation in Ukraine.

Yang Jiechi stated China's principle position, and stressed that the legitimate rights and interests of all ethnic groups in Ukraine should be fully ensured in handling the Ukrainian issue. It is quite an urge that all parties should exercise restraint and strive to solve the crisis through political and diplomatic means so as to avoid further escalation of the tension.

Both sides also discussed China-US relations.
