On February 28, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held the China-UK Strategic Dialogue with British Foreign Secretary William Hague in London.

Yang Jiechi said, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership. The course of the development of bilateral relations has indicated that political mutual trust is the prerequisite and cornerstone to ensure the smooth conduct of bilateral exchanges and cooperation. Faced with the profound and complex changes of the international situation and various uncertainties in the overall recovery of the world economy, the two countries should, on the basis of mutual respect, promote mutual trust and cooperation to a new stage, so as to make new contributions to China-Europe relations as well as world peace and development.

Yang Jiechi said that China is willing to keep high-level dialogues and communications at all levels with the UK and to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. China wishes to enhance communications on China-Europe relations and promote the construction of China-Europe comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides should further strengthen cooperation in international affairs and jointly safeguard the post-war international order and world peace and development.

Hague said that China has scored tremendous development achievements and played an important role in world peace, stability and development. UK and China share broad common interests. With the joint efforts of both sides, UK-China relations have been deepening and the cooperation in all areas is both fruitful and effective. The UK hopes to push forward the comprehensive strategic partnership together with China. The UK is willing to, along with China, further strengthen high-level exchanges and strategic communications, expand practical cooperation, and keep close coordination and cooperation within international organizations such as the United Nations and the Group of Twenty and multilateral mechanisms so as to join the commitment to working out the solutions to the global and regional hotspot issues. The UK supports to strengthen Europe-China cooperation and will continue to play a positive role in promoting it.

The two sides briefed each other their own foreign policies, and had in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional hotspot issues such as climate change, Africa's development, Syrian issue, Iranian nuclear issue, DPRK nuclear issue, and South Sudan issue.
