Wang Yi Holds Talks with Special Envoy of Sri Lankan President and Minister of External Affairs Gamini Lakshman Peiris

On February 11, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with visiting Special Envoy of Sri Lankan President and Minister of External Affairs Gamini Lakshman Peiris.

Wang Yi said, China-Sri Lanka relationship has always enjoyed stable and healthy development. It is a model of friendly coexistence, cooperation and win-win results between countries. China-Sri Lanka relationship is now at the best period in history. The two sides may comprehensively expand maritime cooperation and jointly build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, on the basis of deepening practical cooperation in all areas. Wang Yi said, China supports the Sri Lankan government to safeguard national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, believes that the Sri Lankan people are with wisdom and ability to manage their own internal affairs, and opposes some countries interfering in internal affairs of Sri Lanka with the human rights issues as the excuse.

Gamini Lakshman Peiris said that China is an important partner of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is deeply grateful for China providing a lot of help for the economic and social development of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka supports the construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and is willing to work with China to strengthen practical cooperation in all areas.
