German Chancellor Angela Merkel Meets with Yang Jiechi

On January 28, 2014, German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with State Councilor Yang Jiechi at the Chancellery in Berlin.

Merkel said that Germany appreciates China for its new and commendable achievements in the reform and development. Germany-China relationship enjoys solid foundation. Germany is willing to unceasingly strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership with China, to leverage the role of economic and trade cooperation in promoting bilateral relations, to boost cooperation in agriculture, scien-tech and other fields, to enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges and to deepen coordination and cooperation in international affairs.

Yang Jiechi expressed that, with the attention and promotion of the state leaders of the two countries, China-Germany relations have maintained a sound growth momentum in recent years. China and Germany share extensive common ground and common interests. The two countries are good cooperative partners. Both sides should work together to unceasingly enhance strategic mutual trust and should adhere to mutual respect and equality. Both sides should vigorously tap complementary advantages in economy and carry forward all-dimensional practical cooperation. Both sides should keep promoting bilateral cooperation in international affairs so as to safeguard regional and global peace, stability and development, to push forward the international pattern towards a just and reasonable direction and to uphold international justice.

During the visit, Yang Jiechi as well held talks with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and met with David Gill, State Secretary and Head of the Federal Presidential Office.
