2014-01-23 18:16

On January 22, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa of Indonesia in Montreux, Switzerland.

Wang Yi said, in October last year, President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Indonesia. The state leaders of the two countries announced the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership, charting the course for the future development of China-Indonesia relations. The year 2014 marks the beginning of our job of jointly implementing the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. We both should follow this direction to promote bilateral practical cooperation in all fields to yield more tangible results.

Wang Yi said, regional cooperation comprises an important part of China-Indonesia strategic relations. The Chinese side is willing to join the efforts with Indonesia to push forward China-ASEAN relations for continuous development. This year, we will focus on the following works: First, to promote China and ASEAN countries to discuss the signing of the Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. Second, to do a good job for the Year of China-ASEAN Cultural Exchanges. Third, to start the negotiations on the upgraded version of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) as soon as possible. Fourth, to push forward the establishment of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Fifth, to make full use of China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund to build the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century.

Wang Yi said, China always attaches great importance to the good-neighbourly and friendly relations with the ASEAN. The current China-ASEAN relationship maintains good development momentum. We should prevent those attempts of sowing discord between China and ASEAN for their selfish interests, and keep individual cases of issues away from interfering with and affecting China-ASEAN overall relations. China is willing to strengthen communications with Indonesia, well maintain the overall situation of China-ASEAN relations, and safeguard regional peace and stability.

Marty Natalegawa said that Indonesia has close relations with China, and highly appreciates China's all-time active participation in and support for cooperation in ASEAN region. Indonesia is willing to continue its close communications with China, and take practical measures to further strengthen bilateral relations, to promote ASEAN-China cooperation and to safeguard regional peace and stability.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in Syria and other issues.
