Third Round of China-Gulf Cooperation Council Strategic Dialogue Held in Beijing

  On January 17, 2014, the Third Round of China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Strategic Dialogue was held in Beijing. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi co-chaired the dialogue with First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah of Kuwait, the rotating president of the GCC. GCC Secretary-General Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Assistant Foreign Minister Mohammed Rumaihi of Qatar, the next rotating president of the GCC, as well as officials of foreign ministries or representatives of foreign ministers of other GCC member states, were present.

  Wang Yi expressed that China and the GCC countries enjoy firm foundation of political mutual trust, huge demand for mutual complements in economy and profound friendship among the peoples. Both sides are important cooperative partners to each other. Conducting mutually beneficial cooperation has huge potential and conforms to the fundamental interests of the two sides. China is willing to work with the GCC to uplift the bilateral political relations, with establishing strategic partnership as the goal, to deepen practical cooperation in all fields with building the free trade area (FTA) as the focal point. To jointly push forward the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st century, and comprehensively uplift the level of China-GCC relations. To build the upgraded version of friendly cooperation between China and the GCC, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.

  The GCC side noted that the GCC attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China, and is willing to enhance political mutual trust with China, to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, to strengthen friendly exchanges, and to promote bilateral relations for unceasingly new progress. The GCC believes that establishing GCC-China FTA goes with the common interests of both sides, and is willing to work with China to accelerate the process of FTA negotiations and to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

  Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern, and agreed that the international community should work together to ensure that the second Geneva meeting on Syria issue can be held as scheduled, and to promote a political settlement of the Syria issue.

  Following the conclusion of the strategic dialogue , the two sides signed the 2014-2017 Action Plan of the Strategic Dialogue between the People's Republic of China and the GCC Member States, and issued the Press Communique of the Third Round of the PRC-GCC Strategic Dialogue.
