On January 8, 2014, Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, while holding joint press conference with Hanna Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, said to the journalists that, Kwame Nkrumah, the founding President of Ghana, is an influential advocate of pan-Africanism. Pan-Africanism is the direction for Africa and in tune with the times. In the historical course of building a stronger Africa through unity, China will stand firmly by the side of Africa.

Wang Yi said, Pan-Africanism is Africa's invaluable spiritual assets, which once played a historical role in the national liberation and independence movements on the African continent. Now the African countries and the African Union have enriched Pan-Africanism with new timely contents, which is, under the banner of Pan-Africanism, to accelerate the political and economic coalition and integration process.

Wang Yi pointed out that, as a friend of Africa, China understands and supports Pan-Africanism. The spiritual essence of Pan-Africanism is self- confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement with the objectives of achieving solidarity, development and rejuvenation. Pan-Africanism is the direction for Africa and in tune with the times.

Wang Yi said, patriotism is valued in every country. Pan-Africanism is a form of patriotism on the African continent. The spirit of Pan-Africanism is also interlinked and coherent with the spirit of fortitude and perseverance of the Chinese nation. In the African historical course of building a stronger Africa through unity, China will stand firmly by the side of Africa. Fulfilling the dream of national rejuvenation for the 1.3 billion Chinese people and realizing the dream of rejuvenation and development for over 1 billion African people will strongly advance the progress of the human society and will make the planet more peaceful, more stable, more prosperous and more of equilibrium. China and Africa, joining hands together, can change the world. This should be the revelations given by Pan-Africanism in modern time.
