Xi Jinping Holds Talks with President Juan Evo Morales Ayma of Bolivia Push for Unceasing Development of China-Bolivia Friendly and Mutually Beneficial Relations

On December 19, 2013, President Xi Jinping held talks at the Great Hall of the People with President Juan Evo Morales Ayma of Bolivia. The two heads of state had a nice talk about traditional friendship and discussed the practical cooperation. They agreed that the two countries will work together to push for unceasing development of China-Bolivia friendly and mutually beneficial relations.

Xi Jinping expressed his appreciation to President Juan Evo Morales Ayma for his long time commitment to the development of China-Bolivia relations. He expressed the wish that the Bolivian government and the people, under the leadership of President Juan Evo Morales Ayma, will always make new achievements in their cause of building a multi-ethnic country of prosperity and wealth.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in recent years, China and Bolivia have enjoyed substantial development of bilateral relations, with close exchanges at all levels, fruitful practical cooperation and increasingly deepened traditional friendship. China highly values relations with Bolivia and is ready, taking President Juan Evo Morales Ayma's current visit to China as an important opportunity, to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation. We will continue to support Bolivia's economic and social development.

Juan Evo Morales Ayma expressed, the Bolivian people hold profound feelings and trust for the Chinese people, admire the enormous development achievements of China and appreciate the role of China as a responsible major country. Bolivia is now promoting reform, developing the economy, overcoming poverty, improving people's livelihood and actively joining in the Latin American integration process. To develop friendly and mutually beneficial relations with China is the priority for Bolivia's foreign relations. The Bolivian side congratulates the success of the Third Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee. It is believed that China fully deepening reform will bring greater opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

The two heads of state reached consensus on bilateral cooperation.

First, to maintain high-level exchanges, to strengthen exchanges between the governments, legislative bodies and political parties, to share experience on state governance and to continue supporting each other on major issues concerning each other's core interests.

Second, to promote balanced growth of bilateral trade, to push for overall development of cooperation in the fields of energy, mining, agriculture, infrastructure construction, high-tech, finance and aerospace and to effectively implement major projects. The Bolivian side welcomes investment from Chinese businesses and is ready to create favourable circumstances for this.

Third, to strengthen exchanges in the fields of culture, education and tourism, to enhance mutual understanding and friendship and to facilitate bilateral personnel exchanges.

Fourth, to keep close cooperation in the UN, the "G77 plus China" and other multilateral mechanisms and to boost cooperation on sustainable development, climate change, food security and other issues so as to better safeguard the interests of developing countries. To work together to push for an early establishment of China-Latin America Cooperation Forum in order to promote the overall China-Latin America cooperation.

Following the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents including the economic and technological cooperation agreement between the two governments.

Prior to the talks, Xi Jinping held the welcome ceremony for Juan Evo Morales Ayma at the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People. Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Chen Zhu, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Chen Yuan and others were present.
