On March 6, 2012, Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying met with the visiting Indian delegation coming to attend the first meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs.

Fu said the current China-India relations have maintained a sound development momentum, with bilateral interactions getting increasingly frequent. Before the final settlement of border issues, maintaining peace and stability in border regions is in line with the interests of the two countries and peoples. Establishing the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs is an important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. The successful convening of the first meeting of the Working Mechanism marks a good beginning for the effective operation of the mechanism in the long run. Fu expressed the hope that the two sides could actively implement the consensus of this meeting, strengthen coordination and cooperation, safeguard peace and tranquility of the border regions, and make greater contributions to the development of the China-India strategic partnership.

Gautam H. Bambawale, Head of the Indian delegation and Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said the Indian side attaches great importance to India-China relations and places a priority on developing relations with China in India's diplomatic work. The establishment of the Working Mechanism is not only conducive to safeguarding peace and tranquility in the border regions, but also conducive to creating a good surrounding environment for the internal development of the two countries. The meeting was conducted in a friendly atmosphere and in a constructive and forward-looking spirit and achieved fruitful results. The Indian side expressed its satisfaction and was willing to make joint efforts with China to continue to maintain the peace and tranquility of the border regions.

Indian Ambassador to China Dr. S. Jaishankar was also present at the meeting.
