On January 11, 2012, Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with the special representative of US President and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Li said that the consensus reached between President Hu Jintao and President Barack Obama on building the China-US cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit pointed out the direction for the bilateral ties. The two sides should effectively implement the important consensus entered into between the two heads of state, expand cooperation, broaden the convergence of interest, fully dig the complementarities between the two economies, respect each other, hold consultations on the basis of equality, properly handle emerging issues, achieve more pragmatic results, benefit the two peoples and promote the healthy and stable progress of China-US relations.

He pointed out that countries are highly interdependent economically and must strengthen coordination and cooperation in order to achieve common development against the background that the world economic situation remains complicated and severe and risks are interwoven together. China will accelerate change of its economic development mode and restructuring, focus on expanding domestic demand, especially consumption demand under the condition of opening wider to the world, better protect and improve people's livelihood and maintain stable and relatively fast economic growth, which will also help the recovery of world economy.

Geithner noted that China's development is of great significance to the US and the world. The US thinks highly of China's measures of expanding domestic demand and pushing forward reform and opening up and is willing to work with China to broaden the mutually beneficial cooperation, step up cooperation on major global economic issues and promote the development of the US-China relations.

Financial Minister Xie Xuren was present at the meeting.
