Celebrating 93rd Founding Anniversary of PLA

H.E. Zhang Jianmin

Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Czech Republic

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear friends,

Dobry Den!

On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, I am most pleased to join you at this online event to celebrate the 93rd founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

In the past 93 years, the PLA has remained true to its ideals and mission, and accomplished great achievements in securing national liberation and advancing independence and socialist construction. Today, the PLA is a staunch pillar for safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, and it is firmly committed to maintaining international security and world peace.

The world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Destabilizing, uncertain factors and challenges continue to rise. Joint efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind is the answer to harmonious coexistence of people across the world. It is with this spirit that China will continue to make its contribution to maintaining world peace and promoting global development.

China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace, and actively develops global partnerships. We view the Czech Republic as an important partner in Central and Eastern Europe. We sincerely hope to enhance practical cooperation in various fields with the Czech Republic on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit.

This year will be remembered for the global fight against COVID-19 pandemic. With solid leadership, firm determination and strong unity, China has gained major strategic achievements in its nationwide battle against the virus. Meanwhile, China has proved to be a responsible member of international community. China has provided assistance to many countries to the best of its ability and played an active role in WHO for closer international cooperation.

China and the Czech Republic have had good cooperation in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic together. We look forward to continuing our cooperation in the post-pandemic era, especially in economic recovery and health care. This is what is required of both sides to ensure the well-being of our two peoples.

Celebrating 93rd Founding Anniversary of PLA

Senior Colonel Wang Xianyun

Defense Attache of the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic

August 1st marks the 93rd founding anniversary of the Chinese Liberation Army (PLA). Under the strong leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, the PLA has made the great historical contribution to the independence and liberation of the Chinese nation, to defending China's sovereignty, security and development interests, and to promoting world peace and stability.

In the new era, with the aim to address various security threats and to accomplish diversified military tasks, the PLA has been pushing ahead with reform and modernization, and has achieved thorough restructuring and greatly enhanced its combat effectiveness. The PLA has the determination, confidence and capability to overcome all threats and challenges, to provide strategic support for the realization of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

Faithful to its mission, the PLA is strongly committed to serving the people, whether to safeguard the peaceful life and labor of people, to conduct disaster relief operations, or to fight prevalent epidemics.

The PLA's brave fight against the COVID-19 has won applause. After the pandemic outbreak, more than 4,000 PLA medical personnel were swiftly deployed in Hubei Province to treat COVID-19 patients. The PLA also took charge of supplying medical materials to hospitals, and food to the local population under lockdown. Scientists at the PLA Academy of Military Sciences have been racing against time for breakthroughs in scientific research. The recombinant COVID-19 vaccine they developed has passed registration and review for clinical research and entered the second phase of clinical trials. The PLA's arduous efforts have made an outstanding contribution to winning the people's war against the virus. Meanwhile, the PLA has provided material aid to more than 20 foreign militaries and sent medical experts to support several other countries. Medical experts of the Chinese military have also held video conferences with their counterparts in foreign armed forces to share experience on pandemic control and disease treatment.

The world today is undergoing profound and complex changes.Peace, development and win-win cooperation remain the irreversible trends; however, the world is not yet a peaceful place, with prominent destabilizing factors and uncertainties in international security. China adheres to the path of peaceful development and to an independent foreign policy of peace. China adopts a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. China pursues common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security and rejects the cold war mentality.

China's military is actively fulfilling the international obligations of the armed forces of a major country. China has contributed the largest numbers of troops to the UN peacekeeping missions and the second largest share of the UN peacekeeping funds among the permanent members of the UN Security Council. Since 2008, the PLA has dispatched 35 escort task force groups for escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and off the coast of Somalia. The PLA has also taken an active part in over 30 international disaster relief operations in the past 10 years. By so doing, China has been greatly contributing to safeguarding peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as a whole.

The PLA has also established relations with armed forces from more than 150 foreign countries, featuring training and education, joint exercises and personnel exchanges, etc., which serve to deepen mutual understanding and to promote peace and stability. In this regard, we are most pleased to see the institutionalized exchanges underway between the armed forces of China and the Czech Republic.
