Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jianmin meets Czech Minister of Culture

2019-09-09 22:42

Ambassador Zhang Jianmin met with the new Czech Minister of Culture Lubomir Zaoralek at the Czech Ministry of Culture on September 9th. They exchanged views on cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Ambassador Zhang said that the Chinese side attaches importance to enhancing cultural exchanges with the Czech side. The recent tour by the Czech Philharmonic was very popular among Chinese audiences and other outstanding Czech cultural institutions would follow.

Ambassador Zhang pointed out that contrary to Czech media reports, the Chinese side did not cancel the trip to China by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. In fact, it was the Orchestra’s own decision to postpone the trip at the advice of its agency. The purpose, according to what the Orchestra explained to the Embassy, was to perform in even more Chinese cities next year.

Ambassador Zhang stressed that the root cause of certain difficulties in cultural exchanges lied with the relevant parties in the Czech Republic. Instead of making unfounded accusations against the Chinese side, the Czech side needs to recognize facts and earnestly address the root cause. China is firmly opposed to any act that undermines China’s core interests and China-Czech friendship. It is our hope that the Czech side would make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to create a more enabling atmosphere for closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
